Physical Education

At Lambs Lane, we regard sport as a vital part of developing our children’s physical fitness but it is also necessary for their mental, emotional and social wellbeing. Sport teaches self-discipline and that to be successful, we must be resilient, work hard and have determination to succeed.

It is our intent to teach our pupils life skills that will positively impact on their future. Through high-quality teaching and varied learning opportunities we aim to inspire all children at Lambs Lane to succeed in physical activities. We want our children to learn how to cooperate and collaborate with others and develop an understanding of fairness and respect when engaging in sports.

All pupils participate in two weekly sessions of physical education. Our PE programme is taught by a highly qualified sports coach. Our curriculum incorporates a variety of sports to help pupils understand safe practise, accommodating the individual needs of all pupils. In EYFS and KS1, pupils are taught to master basic movements and develop balance and co-ordination. They participate in tactical team games and perform dances using simple movements and patterns. In KS2 they build on prior taught skills to develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance. They take part in outdoor and adventurous activities during residentials and develop competency in swimming. We provide opportunities for all children to engage in extra-curricular activities during and after school, in addition to competitive sporting events.

Ultimately, we want all of our pupils to live healthy, happy lives and do our best to offer them as many opportunities as possible.
