The children in Woodpeckers have been busy, busy, busy since starting in Year 2. As you may have seen in one of the last news articles, we have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We had fun building some houses and then setting alight to them!
We have done so many other things too…
Some of us have been writing stories in English (all about some animals going on an adventure!). We used the story ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson to help us create some interesting characters and settings. We have been reading lots of Julia Donaldson books so if you want a recommendation, please just ask one of us!
In geography, we have used Google Maps to navigate our local settlement and then we looked at London to compare it. London is MUCH bigger than Spencers Wood!
In art, we have been studying Vincent Van Gogh. It was sad to find out that even though he was such an amazing painter, he only sold ONE painting while he was alive! We have explored using warm and cool colours and have focussed on some of the detail in his art. We have created some artwork in the style of Vincent Van Gogh but also linked to the Great Fire of London!
