Reading Football Club Tournament

On the 29th March myself (Mr Butler) and Mrs Oliver travelled with a few selected year 3 and 4 boys to play in a football tournament held at Madejski stadium where over 30 teams had entered. The tournament was set out into group stages and if successful, knockout stages.

Our first of 5 games ended in a thrilling match with Evan managing to score a great goal towards the end of the game. Unluckily for our team the opposition scored with the last kick of the match ending the result 1-1. Loddon - 1 v 1 – Lambs Lane

In our second game Evan again scored not one but two fantastic goals with his right foot which buried into the bottom corner. Our two defenders Remy and Noah battled well helping our team carry the 2-0 score line over the finish line. Lambs Lane – 2 v 0 – Hatch Ride

Our third game was more difficult. Although we had most possession of the ball South Lake managed to counter and score two goals, giving Lambs Lane its first defeat. Lambs Lane – 0 v 2 – South Lake

In our fourth game Lambs Lane got back to scoring ways with another great strike from Evan which was set up perfectly by Max. In the final minute it looked like another last minute goal by the opposition, if it wasn’t for a great save by Sam keeping the score at 1-0. Lambs Lane – 1 v 0 – The Coombes

The next game was Hawkedon. Following our victory over The Coombes our confidence was high and this showed on the pitch. Dylan, Evan and Max all scoring for Lambs Lane gave us a triumphant win of 3-1, great result! Lambs Lane – 3 v 1 Hawkedon

Our final game of the group was a hard fought match against a strong Willow Bank team. Willow Bank opened the scoring with a great shot from outside the box. If it wasn’t for some great tackling from Oliver and Alfie in Midfield the score line would have been higher. Willow Bank 1 v 0 Lambs Lane

With three victories and one draw in the group stage Lambs Lane managed to enter the Top Cup Competition by finishing in a hugely respected 2nd place while the other teams had entered the plate. Our next opponents where the winners from group 2 in the Quarter Finals.

The Quarter Finals was an exhilarating encounter with both teams going for victory. With only a few seconds to go Evan again managed to read a pass from an opposition back pass and quickly pounced with a low driven shot into the back of the net. 1-0 Lambs Lane! Nine Mile Ride – 0 v 1 – Lambs Lane

Into the semi-finals! Another fantastic display of skill showed by both teams in a tense semi-final. Just before the half a mistake from the opposition goalie gave Lambs Lane a deserved lead. Going into the second half that lead was distinguished by fine play from the opposition, 1-1. Sam managed to pull off a fantastic diving save in the last minute which led the game to penalties. The opposition goalie made a heroic penalty save pushing us out of the tournament in the semi-finals.

Throughout the tournament this team showed great passion on and off the pitch and made myself and Mrs Oliver hugely proud to manage this team. I couldn’t name one Player of the Day as they were all deserving of this honour!
