British Values

All schools are expected to promote British values as part of the requirement to provide for the spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development of their pupils.

Guidance from the Department for Education (DfE) says that British values include:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

British Values is not a separate curriculum strand and at Lambs Lane we believe that it is best taught in a holistic way by, embedding it into the curriculum where is makes most sense, but also living it through the schools own values and ethos. All staff are expected to model and promote them as part of their on-going work with pupils and use them in meaningful and character-building ways.

We need to help our pupils understand how things work and how to challenge and change them for the better
